At Full Circle, we provide holistic, integrative veterinary care -- at our clinic, over the phone, through email, and on housecalls.  Here's a bit more information about who we are and what we do.

Holistic = the whole being

Holistic Consultation and Exam

Our basic exam for new patients, 45-60 minutes

This is a full discussion of your pet's health and any concerns you have. Evaluation of medical history and recommendations on holistic / natural care, including nutrition and herbal supplementation, detox information, supplements etc.  ALL questions are welcomed!  You will leave this appointment feeling empowered and in full control of your pet's health.  Includes a thorough exam and evaluation of your pet (some pet owners choose to come without their pets and that is perfectly fine!)

Wellness and Preventative Care

Typical exam if no health concerns

We provide yearly wellness exams for all pets, which includes a physical exam and discussion of preventative care going forward.

Urgent Care Exams

Same-day appointments

If we are able to, we provide same-day urgent care for patients that need it.  If we are not able to provide the care, we will refer to an urgent care facility in the area, just give us a call at 608-620-4729

Nutritional Consultation

Want to make your own pet food? Looking for an alternative to a prescription food?

This is typically included with a holistic consultation, but may also be booked on its own.  If you are interested in making food at home for your pet but want to make sure you are providing everything they need, or are looking for an alternative to a prescription diet, or just want to know what is the best food to feed your pet, this is a very informative consultation!  We can help you with recipes, supplementation, further information and resources.

Cancer Care Consultation

Find out the many options in the treatment and care of cancer

Dr. Carrie has made it a mission of hers to educate pet owners dealing with cancer that there ARE alternatives to conventional cancer care and treatment.  It is not black and white -- meaning it does not have to be chemo vs nothing or surgery vs nothing, or radiation vs nothing.  There are SO MANY ways that pet owners can support, treat and sometimes cure their pet's cancer without conventional medicine!  And there are so many ways that holistic medicine can work WITH conventional care -- in an integrative way.    We will never make you feel guilty.   Find out your options and make the best decision for you and your pet.  We will help guide you down this path that can be very overwhelming and exhausting, and we will support you however we can.

End of Life / Hospice Consultation

Find out your options and gather information about providing peace and care for your pet at this time

If you are interested in providing your companion with the best quality of life at the end of life, without major interventions, please give us a call.  We would love to talk to you about what you can do to support your pet at or near the end of his or her life, and how to know when it is time to think about letting them go.  Dr. Carrie has helped hundreds of pet owners make decisions that are in the best interest of the animals and the caregivers.  The end of a pet's life is a difficult experience to go through, and pet owners need support.  You are NOT alone.   We offer no judgment, we don't tell you what you should do, and don't make you feel guilty.  We are here to give you a helping hand and the tools you need.  If euthanasia is chosen, we will help make that process as peaceful as possible.  Please go t our partner website to read more.

A veterinary visit, in the comfort of your own home

We fully understand that it can be stressful to get pets in to the clinic or sometimes your pet's mobility is a factor -- we want appointments to be as stress-free as possible, and for that reason, we offer housecall appointments one day per week -- currently on Wednesdays.  We close the physical clinic and head out on the road.  We offer acupuncture or basic consultations and exams in the home, just give us a call to discuss what you might be looking for and how we can help!

Phone Consultations

When distance is a factor

If you don't live in the Madison area but you're still interested in getting a holistic perspective on your pet's health or you have questions about natural alternatives for a certain condition, phone consultations can be a great way to go -- you'll have 30 minutes to discuss your pet's health with Dr. Carrie.

Surgeries and Dentals

A holistic approach to anesthesia and recovery

Most pets will have to go under anesthesia at least once, whether it is for a spay, neuter, mass removal or a dental cleaning -- and for many, multiple surgeries or dentals will be warranted for their best health.  We make this process easier on everyone by providing holistic support.  Pets wait for surgery in a room that has low lighting, is quiet with soft music playing, and aromatherapy going.  Cats are separated from dogs.  During the anesthetic procedure, we take steps to ensure that any pain is kept to a minimum by providing acupuncture, fluid therapy, Vitamin B12 and homeopathic remedies.  After the procedure, pets recover in another quiet room on a warm bed, where they are constantly monitored.  They don't wake up in a metal cage, and we are there to comfort them as they recovery.  Pets are allowed to go home as soon as they are up and walking around.  We think this is the gentlest way to provide a service that a pet may need, but there's no way to explain what's happening -- so we try to make the entire day as comfortable as we can.

Laboratory Testing and Diagnostics

We offer full laboratory diagnostics as well! Including but not limited to:

  • Bloodwork -- as a diagnostic tool, and for pre-anesthetic screening and medication monitoring

  • Heartworm and Tick-borne disease testing (Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasma)

  • Fecal and parasite testing from stool samples

  • Urinalysis, including culture and sensitivity of urine samples (for bacterial infection)

  • Ear and skin cytology, to diagnose infections of the ears or skin

  • Fine needle aspirates of any masses or growths, to aid in diagnosis

  • Full biopsies of masses or growths

Note -- all diagnostics are done in a gentle and non-invasive, non-traumatic way, that is easiest on the pet.  Often we take pets in the back to our carpeted, aromatherapy-filled treatment room for blood testing, but we can accommodate testing in whichever way is the most comfortable for all.

Vaccine Titers

Does your pet really need all of those vaccines?

A simple blood test can tell us what your pet's immunity levels are -- you might not need to vaccinate!  We can titer for Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus and Rabies (note the rabies titer is not recognized as a replacement for the rabies vaccine as required by law)

Bordetella, Leptospirosis and Lyme vaccines do not cause the body to hold titers for extended periods, so we are not able to test for those.

The amazing power of traditional Chinese medicine

One of our favorite healing modalities!  Have your pet evaluated from a Chinese medical perspective, and provide them with the gift of acupuncture -- this is useful for ANY condition or issue, and helps animals feel better overall -- bringing balance and health.  One of the most common reasons pet owners seek acupuncture for their pets is to relieve pain and tonify weakness associated with older age and arthritis.  Most animals do wonderfully for acupuncture treatments and become very relaxed.  For this service we do offer half or full day drop off appointments so that your pet can take time and fully relax in our clinic with the needles and no time constraints.

Other Services

The not-so glamorous...

We love helping to provide routine services for pets in a gentle and calming way -- whether it's a nail trim or anal gland expression, we want everyone to feel comfortable through it all.  Just ask us if there is a service you are interested in that you don't see listed!  We provide:

  • Nail trims

  • Anal gland expression

  • Ear cleaning

  • Shaving of mats / lion cuts for cats

  • Fluid administration

  • Clipping and cleaning of hot spots

Supplements and Detoxification

Let the healing begin!

At Full Circle we carry a wide variety of supplements aimed at boosting your pet's health -- either by providing extra nutrients, targeting a weak organ system, boosting the immune system, or detoxifying the body from toxins, pathogens or just an over-worked liver!  We can help you choose the best supplements and the easiest way to get your pet to take them!

We also have many topical treatments and natural eye and ear remedies.  Visit us any time to check out our selection.  Most can be purchased over the counter, without a prescription.

The power of medicinal plants

Herbs are powerful medicines, and animals respond amazingly well to herbs!  Without the side - effects of pharmaceuticals.  We offer Chinese and Western herbals in a variety of forms -- tinctures, powders, capsules and even transdermals.  One of the newest herbals on the market is CBD oil, which has proven to be very effective for a wide variety of conditions in animals, for example pain, anxiety, nausea, inflammation, arthritis, and cancer care.

Essential Oils

Aromatherapy for pets

We LOVE aromatherapy!!  Browse around our office and you will find bottles of essential oils everywhere!  Essential oils can be used for a wide variety of health conditions, and work on an energetic level, so there's nothing that you have to give orally -- just expose your pets to the healing power of oils!  We most often use Young Living Oils, and can show you how to get involved in using the oils for your pets!

Raw Food and Treats!

A healthy diet is the backbone of health

We carry several varieties of freeze-dried raw foods so that pet owners who are interested can try out different raw food options for their dogs and/or cats.  We stock Stella and Chewy's and Vital Essentials, both made here in Wisconsin.  We also have Primal, Honest Kitchen and a variety of canned feline selections.  As for treats, we have many to choose from, and it's often a rotating selection -- but all are what Dr. Carrie recommends -- mostly single ingredient whole food items -- organ meats and fruits and veggies.  So check out what we have, and we can always offer samples if you are not sure what your pet might like!

Dr. Carrie Donahue graduated with a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine through the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine.  She obtained her Certification of Veterinary Acupuncture through the Chi Institute in Florida.  The integrative approach that she can provide is an invaluable way to really know what your options are, using both conventional and alternative medicine, we are able to offer you the BEST of both worlds!

Find out what a difference a natural approach will make for your pet!

During a most office calls, clients are interested in getting information on natural alternatives to many of the preventatives and vaccines that are routinely given to pets -- and we discuss that at any and every visit!  There are alternatives to vaccinations, flea and tick preventatives, heartworm preventatives and most medications.  There are also ways to detoxify when conventional treatments are given.  We love discussing diet and nutrition as well.  We take as much time as we need so that all of your questions are answered and you leave the clinic feeling like you know more than when you came in.  We also want pet owners to leave feeling empowered that they are in full control of their pets' health. Every animal is evaluated individually and we will help you come up with a realistic plan for your pet's best possible health. Vaccines,  preventatives, pharmaceuticals are NOT harmless and are best used with full intention; we will help guide you and provide up to date information about the risk of the diseases and parasites that we are attempting to prevent or treat.  Then YOU, as the animal guardian, make the ultimate decision.
