PENNY

In loving memory of Penny

Penny Finn Pond was born on May 22, 2006 on a farm. The farmer was upset because Penny’s mom, Ivy, was pregnant so the owner threatened to drown the kittens in a bucket. Jason and Anne found out the kittens were available and drove to meet them. They met an orange and white tabby who fell asleep on Anne. They decided to name her Penny because she was orange and was lucky like a Penny. But we were the true lucky ones because she was ours.

Penny was always curious and never wanted to be left out. She didn’t appreciate closed doors and would paw to get in wherever she wasn’t supposed to be. Penny acted like a dog in so many ways: She would greet us at the door when we got home from school or work and always wanted to go outside. In her later years we let her hang outside to eat grass and feel the sun on her face. Then she would wait at the door to be let back inside. She would also beg for food and would often need to be put in a room so we could eat in peace. She followed us around the everywhere including the bathroom. It was Penny’s world and we were lucky to be part of it.

Penny moved around a lot! She lived in three houses and one apartment and adjusted fine each time. She gave us unconditional love during so many hard times.

She loved being around people. Unlike some cats Penny always wanted to say hi to visitors with a sweet purr and drive by rub. She always managed to be underfoot when food was around and would get stepped on. She loved to be near us- whether it was on our laps, our legs or right next to us.

Penny always kept us in eye shot. She would sit on her heated blanket and watch us watch tv and would sit outside our bedrooms to keep an eye on us while we were sleeping.

She was born FIV+ but was healthy until recent years when she developed kidney disease and an unbalanced thyroid and eventually cancer. Truesdell Animal Clinic gave Penny exceptional care. We were blessed with an amazing caregiver, Adriana, that helped us when we went away.

Penny is survived by her loving humans: Mom, Anne Finn, Dad, Jason Pond and loving brothers, Connor and Mason Pond. She was also loved by her Step Dad, Andrew Miller, three aunts, two uncles and three cousins.

Penny is preceded in death by her biological mother, Ivy, who died in 2017. Father unknown.
