He gave the very best hugs—always tucking his head right between your legs, leaning in with all the love he had. He wasn’t loud or wild or demanding. He just wanted to be near you.
He loved car rides and adventures, but more than anything, he loved being together. I was so blessed to bring him to work with me almost every day of his life. Even after he retired, on the days he came in, his joy was unmistakable. He greeted people with quiet happiness, and people were always so happy to see him too.
Smokey didn’t care much for toys or games. He didn’t need them. His comfort came from presence—from companionship. He had his special spot on the couch, and his snore was so loud it somehow became soothing, a sound that meant everything was right.
He was the most amazing dog. Even though you are gone, Smokey, I still feel you here—your warmth, your calm, your love. That will never leave us.
