CODY GIRL

In loving memory of Cody Girl

21-July-2025

Today, we said goodbye to a very good dog.

Cody Girl was my best friend for over 10 years. She was more than a pet—she was my hunting and fishing buddy, my road trip companion, and my shadow. In all that time, there were only a handful of days we were apart. We did nearly everything together.

Cody loved hunting birds—whether it was pheasants in the fields where I grew up or grouse of the North Woods. She had a nose for adventure and a heart full of drive.

She loved boat rides, too. Perched on the rear deck, she’d watch the planer boards with curiosity, always eager to sniff whatever we brought into the boat. Her presence made every trip better.

But Cody’s greatest love was swimming. She’d dive into anything—from crystal-clear lakes to the muddiest duck ponds, and every creek in between. Her favorite place was the great Gitche Gumee. Even when the water was just 45°F, she’d play in it for hours. Toward the end, swimming became harder for her, but I know she’s doing the doggie paddle now, wherever she is.

We’ll miss you, girl. You were loyal, sweet, and full of joy. Thank you for every moment.
