Olive was too sweet for this world. From the moment she was a puppy, she chose our family, she chose us. I was only nine or ten when she came bounding over and overwhelmed me with puppy kisses. I still remember how happy I felt in that moment. Olive quickly became my very best friend forever. She sat faithfully on my mom’s lap during her battle with cancer, never leaving her side. Olive loved snuggling and slept beside me nearly every night. If my dad took Olive to the cabin, I’d always call and say, “Make sure you sleep with Baby!”
Olive was a true lover. She greeted everyone with a big, teethy smile and a wagging tail that shook her whole body in a joyful little dance. She adored sticks, toys, sweaters, swimming, running, and hiking — but she also loved nothing more than curling up on the couch with her family.
She was a smart girl who understood many words, but what I loved most was how deeply she read people — through facial expressions and body language. If I smiled at her, her tail wagged. If I was sad, she’d lay next to me and rest her head on my body. She was the best hugger.
In a world full of judgment and resentment, Olive never made me feel anything but accepted and loved. She taught me what unconditional love truly means. Everyone deserves an Olive.
She was there to lick away my tears through all the ups and downs of being a teenage girl. Olive loved riding shotgun, joining me on little adventures and trips. She was so important to every single member of our family and touched us all deeply.
She had a special buddy, Dexter, our other dog, and I know Dexter misses his Ollie bear just as much as we do. Additionally, Starla , her twin in cat form.
Olive was my best friend, and we will never ever forget her. Amidst this terrible pain, I realize what makes it so hard — she was truly amazing. How lucky am I to have had something so wonderful that losing her hurts this much?
